DO RE WE NEWS

Nastop na Slovenskem knjižnem sejmu v čast avtorjema slikanice Lev v srcu

In September, fate intervened (although there are probably no coincidences, and this had to happen :)) and we, the DoReWe members, met with the team and leadership of Morfem Publishing House, which is also a great fan of the picture book The Lion Inside. Not only fans but because of them, the picture book was published and translated into Slovenian.

At the invitation of Morfem Publishing House, on Tuesday, November 21 at 5:00 PM, we once again staged our mini-musical The Lion Inside, this time in honor of the authors of the book, Rachel Bright and Jim Field. Author Rachel and illustrator Jim were the honored guests of the publishing house at the Slovenian Book Fair.

Preparing for the stage performance in front of the expected large crowd required a lot of practice. The children made an effort and diligently practiced and refined songs, lyrics, and choreography for three consecutive weekends in November. We must also mention the parents who diligently drove their children to all rehearsals to ensure they were well prepared.

Despite the packed hall, the performers' stage fright was minimal on the day of the performance. Our musical director Boris Papak and his right-hand Nevena Josić guided the children through all parts of the musical with lion-hearted determination and dedication, resulting in a well-deserved loud applause from the audience at the end of the show. Congratulations, not only to Nevena and Boris but also to all our brave "lions" who proved what dedication and goodwill can achieve:

Ana, Nace, Marta, Mila, Nour, Sheila, Frane, Matic, Amina, Polina, Lia, Sofia Ana, and Julija, you performed excellently even on a bigger stage! We are proud of you.

We also thank Helena Kraljič and the entire team at Morfem Publishing House for warmly welcoming us and inviting us to the grand stage of the Slovenian Book Fair.

FANTASTIC TIP

#13 What exactly is a MUSICAL and what abilities and skills are needed in a musical?

A musical is a theatrical work that combines:

  1. Songs (usually based on popular or jazz music)

  2. Dialogue (spoken part)

  3. Dance (individual or in various groups)

  4. Acting (theatrical performance)

The story and emotional content of a musical are conveyed to the audience through all four elements - music, words, movement, and acting, all combined into a whole.

SONATA FROM THE STREET

Rachel Bright, the author of The Lion Inside picture book for which we staged the mini-musical, wrote the following:

"Jim and I were both invited by our Slovene publishing house to visit the annual book fair in Ljubljana. And boy... are we glad we said YES!

Lots of roaring, drawing, singing and dancing, not by us, but by the absolutely incredible DoReWe music school, who performed the most magical musical show of The Lion Inside.

Say yes to adventure and opportunity. That "yes" will bring you gifts you never could have imagined yet."

Illustrator Jim Field was also thrilled with us:

"Yesterday evening Rachel and I were treated to a stage performance by Music School DoReWe who had created an incredible adaptation [of The Lion Inside] for the stage.

We  were truly blown away, it was very emotional to see how our stories have travelled and to see it performed by children and all the work that the [DoReWe] team had put into this was something I will always remember."

LA LA QUIZ

We have already mentioned that knowledge of (1) singing songs, (2) storytelling or dialogue, (3) dancing, and (4) acting is required to perform in a musical. Many would logically assume that such knowledge and involvement comes with many years and is reserved for somewhat older people.

But it's not true! Our children have proven that such skills can be learned at a young age. Can you guess how old our youngest performer was?

TINY TREASURES

In December, specifically on Saturday, December 16, 2023, you will be able to watch performances by our students at the Radomlje Cultural Center.
