DO RE WE NEWS
Singing Christmas Tree
Every year, December in Kamnik shines in a special light. As our music school is located right in this beautiful town, we are especially pleased to actively take part in the festive events that fill the town’s streets, squares, and the hearts of visitors during this magical time.
Again this year, the Municipality of Kamnik organized the Singing Christmas Tree as part of Fairytale Kamnik, where the voices of numerous choirs echoed every December weekend. Christmas and evergreen songs warmed the hearts of passers-by and gave the town a truly special festive atmosphere.
On St. Nicholas’ Day, December 6, DoReWe piano, singing, and School of Musical students contributed to the magical Christmas spirit with their musical storytelling performance—not only in Kamnik, but also in Domžale at the event ZaŽivi December.
December is a time when music connects people more strongly than ever. We are happy to have been part of this story again this year—in Kamnik, Domžale, and wherever the music of our school is heard.
Musical: Mini Club of Dreams at the Christmas Bazaar
On Friday, December 19, the Christmas Bazaar took place at the Radomlje Cultural Center, organized by the Radomlje Local Community. The event attracted numerous visitors and created a truly festive atmosphere. The highlight of the evening was a musical-theatrical performance by the DoReWe mini musical titled Mini Club of Dreams.
The stage was taken by students of the School of Musical from the Radomlje group, who delighted the audience with their energy, singing, acting, and dancing. Through a playful story and music, the mini musical portrayed dreams and friendship, and showed how to chase away boredom together during the holiday season.
The performance was a beautiful example of the creativity and dedication of the young performers, who brought smiles to the faces of the audience with their heartfelt performance and enriched the festive events in Radomlje.
Performance by students and mentor at Hiša Jakoš
On Sunday, December 21, a pleasant festive event took place at Hiša Jakoš in Ivančna Gorica, enriched by a performance from the students together with their mentor. In the warmth of the holiday atmosphere, they delighted the gathered visitors with music and performance, providing a musically colored conclusion to the December festivities.
Sincere congratulations to all the performers for a wonderful performance and a lovely contribution to the festive spirit of Ivančna Gorica. Special congratulations go to mentor Anja Mlinar, who took on the new location with great dedication and, this time, stepped onto the stage together with her students.
DoReWe mid-year Christmas Concert
On Saturday, December 13, we held the DoReWe Mid-Year Christmas Concert at the Radomlje Cultural Center, bringing together all our students and mentors in a festive spirit. The concert took place in three sessions throughout the day, and featured performances by all students—from beginners to advanced learners.
Singers, pianists, accordionists, guitarists, and other young musicians took the stage, proudly showcasing what they have learned and refined over the past year. Each performance was a testament to perseverance, progress, and a love for music that students develop through regular practice.
This year, we also prepared a special surprise to conclude the day. At the final concert, we introduced the DoReWe House Band for the first time, featuring our percussionists, this time accompanied by mentors. The performance was met with great enthusiasm and marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter of making music together.
With great joy, we are already looking ahead—at the next concert, we are especially excited to present the full lineup of the DoReWe House Band made up of our students, once again proving how powerful music can be when we create it together.
FANTASTIC TIP
#36 How Parents Can Support Practice at Home
The words parents use during practice carry great power. Instead of correcting and judging, the most helpful approach is to describe what we hear: “I like how calmly you played this part” or “You were very focused this time.” Such statements build confidence and encourage attentive listening. Comments like “That’s wrong” or “You need to try harder”, on the other hand, can quickly create tension—home practice should be a safe and supportive space.
Parents do not need to become the “music police.” Much more can be achieved through routine than through control: by agreeing on a regular practice time, by asking “When would you like to practice today?”, and by maintaining a calm, supportive presence nearby. In this way, children gradually develop a sense of responsibility and a more positive relationship with music.

How much should children practice?
Less, but with focus. Younger children need only a short period of playful practice, while older ones may need a bit more—but quality is always more important than quantity. 15 minutes of joyful practice is worth more than half an hour spent in a bad mood.
Sometimes, it is also perfectly fine to skip practice. If a child is very tired, unwell, or emotionally overwhelmed, rest or simply listening to music is a better choice than forcing practice.
In the end, let us not forget to praise the effort, not just the result. Perseverance, courage in the face of mistakes, and a calm approach to challenges are the foundations on which good musicians—and confident young people—grow.
SONATA ZFROM THE STREET
Impressions of a first-grade piano student:

"DoReWe music school is great. I enjoy my piano lessons and practice diligently at home. All the teachers are wonderful. Teacher Manca is very kind.
This December, I performed for the first time, and I really liked it. I can’t wait for the next performance."
