DO RE WE NEWS

Student Performance at Sports Saturday

The sunny Saturday of May 17 was not just a day for sports enthusiasts, but also for music lovers. Preserje Primary School near Radomlje opened its doors to a variety of activities as part of its traditional Sports Saturday, and musical experiences were certainly not lacking. In addition to hosting a stand, DoReWe also performed on stage. Our students, who take singing and piano lessons at this school, proved that it is never too early for young musicians to impress an audience.

The event was opened by Lia and Neli, who performed a piano duet. The musical program continued with Maša’s solo piano piece, followed by Mark, who quite literally "delighted the audience’s ears" with his skillful piano performance. The highlight of the show was delivered by Pika, who wrapped up our musical program with a charming vocal performance.

World Family Day Celebrated in Kamnik with the Event Harmony of Generations

On Thursday, May 29, with World Family Day (celebrated every year on May 15) in mind, we experienced a very special event — Harmony of Generations — at the Mekinje Stadium in Kamnik, an event that brought together families, sports, creativity, and of course — music.

The event unfolded in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere, full of sports games, children's laughter, and creative workshops organized by local vendors. A genuine sense of family warmth could be felt everywhere — which is exactly the spirit of this celebration.

As always, DoReWe provided a magical musical vibe, this time with a special focus — family performances! Marta, Mila, and their father Mladen, performing as a family trio, along with brothers Jaco and Izaque as a duet, enchanted the audience. This was followed by a piano duet by Marta and Urša, and an emotional vocal performance by Nace, accompanied on piano by Mark. All the performances were woven together with a spirit of family, youth, talent, and friendship.

The event was attended by the Mayor Matej Slapar, who welcomed visitors with an encouraging speech and bravely took a seat in the "hot chair," where he answered a wide range of questions — some serious, others a bit more playful.

The evening ended like a scene from a movie — students of the School of Musical Theatre delivered an emotional interpretation of Goodbye, Farewell, Goodnight from the musical The Sound of Music, bringing the event to a close and bidding us a musical farewell.

If you missed the event — don’t worry! The program was recorded by RTV, and you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of it on Sunday, June 15, around noon.

DoReWe Sings the Anthem of Dežela Junakov to Deželak

On Saturday, May 31, Kamnik became part of the heartfelt story Dežela Junakov, a charity campaign organized by Radio 1, in which Miha Deželak traditionally cycles across Slovenia

to raise funds for summer holidays for children from socially disadvantaged families.

On a sunny morning, this stage of the journey brought Deželak and his team to the main square in Kamnik, which was filled with an enthusiastic crowd. Radio 1 created a lively atmosphere, full of music, good cheer, and positive energy.

We also prepared a special surprise. Together with the students of the School of Musical Theatre, we sang the anthem of the charity campaign Pustite nam ta svet for Deželak the Hero. The song resonated through the square as a heartfelt encouragement and a thank-you to everyone helping to bring smiles to children’s faces. We are proud that we were able to contribute our voices and hearts to this wonderful story.

FANTASTIC TIP

#30 Visit The Phantom of the Opera Musical

We highly recommend seeing the major Broadway and West End hit The Phantom of the Opera, which will be performed spectacularly in Slovenia for the very first time this summer.

The Phantom of the Opera is one of the world’s most popular musicals. From July 9 to 20, it will be staged at Cankarjev dom. This famous musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber has received more than 70 prestigious theatre awards, including four Olivier Awards and seven Tony Awards. It has been seen by more than 160 million people worldwide, across 41 countries, 186 cities, and in 18 languages. This moving love story continues to captivate audiences around the globe.

The musical is based on Gaston Leroux’s novel and is set in 19th-century Paris, where a musical genius known as the "Phantom" lives deep beneath the Paris Opera House. Enchanted by the talent and beauty of young soprano Christine Daaé, he seeks to lure her into becoming his protégé. Can Christine resist the mysterious Phantom of the Opera, or will she be drawn into his world of obsession, darkness, and betrayal?

SONATA FROM THE STREET

Teacher of the Year, Milan Madeljc, who teaches at the Rudolf Maister Gymnasium and Secondary School in Kamnik, said the following about his innovative approach and musicals in an interview:

"Musicals... above all, they are a space that provides opportunities to develop skills that students otherwise don't encounter in regular lessons. A student doesn’t always have to excel in physics, mathematics, or English — they might be an excellent speaker, an outstanding singer, an exceptional performer... Musicals, performances, stage appearances — these are a safe space for those who can’t always shine in the regular classroom or on a test. Here, it doesn’t matter what grade you have — everyone works together toward a single goal, a single performance."
