DO RE WE NEWS

Summer School of Musical and Colourland

This summer was once again marked by creativity, singing, dancing, and acting — the Summer School of Musical  came to life once more at the Mekinje Monastery, taking place in three sessions this year: in Slovenian, English, and bilingual formats. Thanks to its beautiful setting and the possibility of accommodation, Mekinje Monastery proved to be the perfect venue for an intensive yet relaxed musical and dance experience.

The centerpiece of this year’s program was a new DoReWe original musical, titled “Barve sveta / Colourland.” The story takes us into a world where people of the primary colors live side by side — the brave reds, the wise blues, and the cheerful yellows — under one strict rule: colors must never mix.

The main character, Lila, is a purple girl who begins to question why this rule exists at all and where she truly belongs, being different from everyone else. With the help of the painter Mr. Bristle, Lila embarks on an exciting adventure in which she explores the meaning of diversity and community, while also discovering who she really is. Along her journey, she conquers colors one by one — and in doing so, gradually changes the world for the better.

The young participants took part in 15 workshops, where they learned the fundamentals of musical theatre and embraced the story’s important message: that in accepting diversity, there lies hope for a more beautiful and colorful world.

The final performances were filled with energy, color, and sparkles in the eyes — clear proof that, once again this year, the children and their mentors created something truly special together.

DoReWe celebrates it's 3rd Birthday

This year’s Summer Musical School was especially festive — on June 7th, DoReWe Music School celebrated its third birthday! We marked this special day in the best possible way — with a sweet surprise. Participants and mentors enjoyed delicious cream cakes, which created a warm and relaxed atmosphere.

But the celebration didn’t end there — at Friday’s final performance, Samed, an exceptional person and father of one of our students, moved us all with a beautiful birthday cake. Together, we blew out three candles and, with heartfelt smiles, cheered to new successes and creative adventures that lie ahead.

Thank you all for growing with us!

Attending the Musical Phantom of the Opera

In July, our mentors, together with student Nace and his family, attended the musical The Phantom of the Opera at Cankarjev dom. The outstanding performance, brilliant acting and music, and beautiful stage design impressed everyone and created an unforgettable experience.

The visit to the musical was filled with inspiration and musical energy, which will surely find its way into the upcoming DoReWe musicals. Moments like these remind us how important it is to discover the beauty of music and theatre together.

Success of our singers at the International Singing Festival in Brežice

In August, several DoReWe students took part in the 9th International Children’s Singing Festival Brežice, which brought together young singers from different parts of the world. The competition offered a rich musical experience and impressed the audience with high-quality performances by talented young artists.

Our school was excellently represented by Nace, who won an outstanding 2nd place in his category; Sofia Ana, who earned a well-deserved 3rd place; and Julija and Šanaja, who both reached the semifinals and impressed with their superb interpretations and stage presence.

We sincerely congratulate all our singers for their effort, courage, and achievements! We are proud that their voices are heard on such important stages and already look forward to their future performances.

Magical day at the Arboretum

At the end of August, DoReWe once again participated in the Magical Day or Čarobni dan at the Arboretum. The event was colorful and full of musical energy, and visitors also stopped by our booth, where a cheerful and creative atmosphere prevailed.

Children were able to try out various musical instruments, embark on a musical hopscotch, and take on a  musical challenge where we tested their knowledge about music. For successfully completed tasks, they received various prizes, which further encouraged curiosity and joy.

A special atmosphere was created by the performance of our students Šanaja and Julija, who enriched the day on the magical stage with their wonderful vocal performances and delighted the audience.

FANTASTIC TIP

#32 Mozart's summer travels

Did you know that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart traveled across almost all of Europe as a child? With his parents and sister Nannerl, he performed at courts and concert halls in Paris, London, Munich, and many other places.

ree

On these journeys, he didn't just play, but also listened attentively to local musicians and their melodies and rhythms, which inspired him.

Sometimes he even adopted characteristic musical patterns and skillfully wove them into his compositions, which is why we often hear the spirit of different European traditions in his works.

What about you?

If you travel this year – whether to the sea, the mountains, or abroad – try to listen to the music of the place where you'll be. You might catch it on a radio station, in the street, or at a local concert.

Different countries and cultures bring new knowledge, broaden horizons, and offer different instruments, rhythms, and melodies. And who knows – perhaps that very melody will one day inspire you in your own creative work!

SONATA FROM THE STREET

A thank you from our oldest student, 87 years old, who learned piano with us this year:

"Dear everyone!

Thank you for your understanding and for all the effort you put in for me!

See you."

LALA QUIZ

ree

Which Mozart opera contains music inspired by Oriental rhythms and melodies?

A) The Marriage of Figaro

B) The Abduction from the Seraglio

C) Don Giovanni

Mozart used the then-popular "Turkish" sounds in this opera with characteristic drums and cymbals, as he wanted to conjure up the exotic atmosphere of the Ottoman Empire for his listeners.
